Sony buys a European game studio to bring Sony PlayStation to cellphones.
Sony is buying Savage Game Studios; which is developing an unnamed AAA mobile live service action game. However, Savage Game Studios may produce mobile games using current PlayStation franchises.
In addition, Hermen Hulst, head of Sony PlayStation Studios; thinks the company needs diversify beyond console games to reach more people.
Sony plans to strengthen its PC and smartphone gaming presence with the acquisition. By FY 25 (fiscal year 2025); nearly half of Sony’s new releases would be PC and mobile, declared President Jim Ryan in May.

Savage Game Studios; created in 2020, isn’t well-known. Whereas, The company’s website says it’s “building a stellar list of action games over the next decade.” The European startup will join PlayStation Studios Mobile; which is separate from PS5 development.
Moreover, Sony mentioned Savage Game Studios’ experienced developers in a blog post. Sony is dedicated to console-based games despite the acquisition.
“As we promised with our plans to bring select titles to PC. Therefore, our efforts beyond console do not diminish our commitment to the PlayStation community. Furthermore, our passion to keep making amazing single-player; narrative-driven experiences,” Hulst says.
Sony says smartphone gaming will build on console success. “Our mobile gaming efforts will be additive and, providing more ways for more people to engage with our content and reaching new audiences”.
