Samsung’s 990 Pro NVMe SSDs are designed to test the boundaries of the PCIe 4.0 interface.
Samsung claims that the M.2 SSDs’ sequential read rates of 7,450MB/s and writes of 6,900MB/s are “the fastest speed available today from the PCIe 4.0 connection”. In theory, 8,000MB/s is the upper bound for read rates over PCIe 4.0. Therefore, if the Samsung’s 990 Pro really achieves those speeds in practice; it will be hard to beat.
