How to remove Todoist from Outlook

June 25, 2021 by Elen Page Leave a Comment

remove Todoist from OutlookIn this article, you will find out how to remove, disable, and/or uninstall the Todoist add-in from your Microsoft Outlook platform. The methods work for Mac and Windows if there can be very small differences in how the methods are implemented. This article covers both deactivating and removing the add-in because it is often wiser to deactivate (deactivate) the application rather than remove it from Outlook entirely.

Uninstall through Microsoft Office

Open Outlook on your desktop and go to the “File” tab. Go to “Options” and click on it. There is a “Plugins” section on the left where you can choose “COM Plugins”. Select it and press the “Go” button.

Take a look at the list that is presented to you to see if the Todoist plugin is among them. If so, you can remove it by checking the box next to the plugin and then hitting the “Remove” button. Note that checking a box and then pressing the “OK” button does nothing.

Uninstall Outlook separately

If you were looking to remove a WordPress plugin or a Firefox extension, then you would open the corresponding program, search for the plugin, and remove it. However, that is not the wisest method to uninstall Todoist from Outlook. Due to the way Todoist is configured, it may be easier to go the traditional route.

The traditional path is where you shut down your Outlook program, go to “Start” and “Control Panel” and “Programs and Features” and “Uninstall Program.” Or, you can use the Windows search bar and search for “Add and Remove Programs.”

Find Todoist in the list, uninstall it, and then restart your computer. Hopefully, Todoist will be removed from your Outlook and no further action will be required. This is the official method given by the producers of Todoist. Maybe setting a system restore point before uninstalling would be a good idea.

You can always disable Todoist on Mac or Windows

In Outlook, go to “File” and then “Manage Add-ins”. This will open Outlook on the Internet, usually through one of your web browsers. Go to “Manage Add-ons” and find the “Enabled” column. You will see a checkmark next to Todoist. Uncheck the box and Todoist will not be removed but will be effectively disabled until you decide to reactivate it.

When you uncheck the boxes, you disable the add-ons in the same way that you can disable the apps on your phone. If you can’t find Todoist, click the “Find more add-ins for Outlook at the office” link.

Add-ins may appear to be missing if you have Microsoft Office and installed the add-in from the Microsoft Office platform. However, it can also be a sign that your version of Todoist is not installed correctly, or even that you downloaded and installed a pirated / fake/malware version (although that’s not very likely).

You don’t need an uninstaller

While searching the internet for a solution on how to remove Todoist from Outlook, you will come across articles that give you very complex solutions where you need to edit log files, display files, etc. Such solutions are often offered so that you cannot understand them. And those articles offer these complex solutions to justify downloading their uninstaller. However, you don’t need an uninstaller to remove Todoist from Outlook.

Uninstallation is done through the default uninstaller on your device, or through the Microsoft Office platform. If your default uninstaller doesn’t work, then it’s something you need to fix with your OS editor. Here’s a link to the Windows Installer troubleshooter, and here’s a link to Apple’s support for Mac issues.

Why isn’t Todoist working correctly?

If you just removed Todoist to reinstall it, consider the reasons why it stopped working. It will stop working if your registry entries are corrupted, but this is highly unlikely unless you’ve been messing with the registry yourself.

Perhaps it was not installed correctly the first time, or Outlook / Todoist has been updated and caused a problem. Perhaps Outlook or Todoist has a corrupted file, which is rare, but possible. Perhaps the program, or part of it, was accidentally removed. Or maybe you have an infectious virus or malware.

Uninstalling and reinstalling may offer a solution, but if you are really struggling, then using Windows System Restore can be used as a last resort. Alternatively, find another way to use Todoist, or maybe by using something like Evernote. Before taking such drastic methods, check out Todoist’s troubleshooting section to see if your problem can be easily fixed.

Can I reinstall Todoist after removal?

Yes, you can reinstall Todoist after removing it from Outlook, but do your research before doing so. This is because Jan Kratochvíl, Todoist’s Windows Manager, has made it clear that Outlook support is a work in progress as, in his words, they ” look for better ways to support Outlook in the future “. Before reinstalling, look online to see if a better Outlook solution has been created.

The easiest solution is often the best

Always look for the easiest solution to your problem before trying things like disabling, deleting, or even restoring the system. For example, restarting your device often fixes most of the problems because most of the problems are caused by conflicting software. For example, if you are still having trouble removing Todoist from Outlook, restart your device. That way, if the problem is caused by programs running in the background, or something that is still open in Todoist, restarting your device will fix this problem.
