EOS Rebel, x0D, xD

Canon’s Rebel branding dates back to the film period, when Andre Agassi was the company’s pitchman. The Rebel line switched from 135 film cartridges to APS-C digital sensors. The 10D through 90D, as well as the 7D and 7D Mark II, have the same sensor format and lens mount. These cameras use the APS-compatible EF-S mount and EF lenses.
Canon doesn’t use Rebel beyond North America. In Japan, the series is called Kiss, whereas in Europe, Canon utilises three- or four-digit model numbers.

SLRs have an optical viewfinder and a silvered reflective mirror when the lens is removed.

Full-frame lens options are fewer. 1D, 5D, and 6D SLRs can only use full-frame EF lenses. Most Canon SLR lenses are EF, but you need still be aware while shopping.

First Mirrorless Canon EOS M

Canon’s other mirrorless ILCs have incompatible lens systems. 2013’s EOS M uses EF-M lenses. EF-M mount cameras have “M” in their model names. This comprises the initial EOS M to the current EOS M6 Mark II, the EOS M100, M200, M50, and M50 Mark II.

EOS M cameras are smaller than SLRs and lack a viewfinder and mirror box. When you remove the lens from one of these cameras, you see a green image sensor, not a silvered mirror.

Canon’s EF-M mount isn’t as well-supported as its others. Sigma supplied some alternatives to Canon’s eight EF-M lenses. This approach is preferable for photographers who don’t want to invest in hefty F1.4 primes or F2.8 zooms.

The lens library is tiny, however you may use EF and EF-S SLR lenses with an adapter. Read on for the best Canon EF-M mirrorless lenses for your EOS M series.

Mirrorless Canon EOS R

The EOS R system uses RF and RF-S mount lenses and is Canon’s newest camera range. In 2018, EOS R was a full-frame platform, but two APS-C versions were added in 2022.

Then. Canon’s RF lenses outnumber EF-M lenses. It provides consumer-friendly choices like the $200 RF 50mm F1.8 and pro-level telephoto glass. EF-M and RF lenses aren’t cross-compatible, so EOS M owners can’t upgrade to EOS R. EOS R cameras compatible with EF and EF-S lenses with an adapter; the EF-EOS R costs $100.
RF lenses are for full-frame cameras. RF-S lenses still mount on full-format EOS RP and R5 bodies, but with lower resolution. When using an RF-S lens on the 45MP R5, photographs are cropped to 21MP (APS-C). APS-C EOS R7 and R10 photographers can use RF-S or RF lenses.
