Google Hangouts

Google Hangouts is the company’s longest-running chat service. This service will only be available to @gmail.com or @googlemail.com consumer accounts after June 2020. Hangouts is in Gmail’s sidebar and at hangouts.google.com.

Google Meet

Google Meet, formerly Google Hangouts Meet, is Google’s premium video conferencing program. Meet is free. Meet is similar to consumer Hangouts but supports more users. meet.google.com has Meet.

Google Chat

Google Workspace includes Google Chat, formerly named Google Hangouts Chat. If you use Gmail with a company email account, you can use Google Workspace Chat. This programme enables both direct chat and threaded team channels, like Slack. chat.google.com offers chat.

Google Duo

Google Duo offers one-on-one video chats on mobile and desktop. duo.google.com has Duo.

Messages

Android’s SMS app is Messages. Depending on your mobile provider, you may be able to enable chat capabilities like iMessage.

Details? Here’s an overview, screenshots, and more. We’ll start with Meet and Chat, then consumer apps.

Google Meet is like Zoom.

Google Meet, formerly Google Hangouts Meet, is Google’s video conferencing programme for businesses and free Google users. Meet supports up to 250 participants and 100,000 live broadcast viewers, unlike Hangouts. Hangouts enables 25-person video calls. Google users can utilise meet.google.com or Google Chat or Calendar to start a meeting.
Meet’s toolbar is white, unlike Hangouts’ dark UI. You can turn off your camera, mute your mic, or share your screen; call participants appear on the right. Like Hangouts, the presently talking person’s video will appear in the main window by default. However, unlike Hangouts, you can switch to a grid view.
Meet lets you share your desktop, a Chrome tab, or a window. Google Meet performed similarly to regular Hangouts in our tests. Longer calls drain your battery and turn on your laptop’s fans, like every other video chat service. If your video is slow, switch to 360p.

Google Workspace and Meet’s manuals provide more information.

When Google Calendar is connected to Zapier, Google Meet meetings are automatically scheduled. Zapier connects Google Meet to thousands of apps. Here are some popular workflows:

Slack rival Google Chat

Google Chat, formerly Google Hangouts Chat, is a team chat tool similar to Slack and Microsoft Teams. Google Workspace includes it.

Chat focuses on company-wide communication. You’ll create team-focused chat groups. Every group in Chat uses threaded chats, which are optional in Slack. One-on-one discussions within your company work like the consumer version of Hangouts.

This software integrates with Google Workspace, so you can share papers and organise appointments from chat. Share a Google Docs document, and Chat will alter its sharing settings so your team may read it. When searching for previous team discussions, you can filter by Google Docs, Slides, or Sheets to find shared materials.

Chat’s customised notifications help you stay focused on conversations. Choose which conversations to receive mobile or email notifications for.
Google Chat’s integrations and bots are fascinating. It has a built-in @meet bot that works with Google Calendar and Google Meet to schedule meetings. You may find a variety of bots on Chat today, including one from Kayak that finds flights. You can add bots to chat rooms or communicate privately with them to accomplish more.

By combining Google Chat with Zapier, you may get event notifications and track to-dos. Zapier connects Google Chat to dozens of apps. Here are some popular workflows:

Best Google chat app?

Google has released over a dozen chat apps. Google Talk, Wave, and Allo all gone, and I’m sure we’re forgetting more. Which apps will still be around in 10 years? What’s the best Google chat app? Here’s what each app offers.

Hangouts

Google Hangouts is a chat and video chat software embedded into Gmail. Paid or free Google accounts can talk. You can video-call up to 25 people at once and add effects like a hat or sound. Want more readers? Hangouts enables YouTube Live’s live chat broadcasts.

Mobile and most desktop browsers support Hangouts. When you make a Google Calendar appointment, you’ll get a Hangouts link to easily join a call. It’s good for business and personal calls.

Duo Google

FaceTime on Android? Or you could use Hangouts without extra features? Duo is Google’s video chat software.

Duo is easy to use. Open the app, tap a contact, and start a video call seconds later. Duo.google.com allows computer calls.

Messages

Sending SMS and MMS on Android? Android’s best app. It seems easy, yet it lets Android users text from a computer. Depending on your carrier, you can enable chat capabilities like read receipts and Wi-Fi messaging. Google is working on an Android iMessage rival.
