Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 4 on August 10. The new folding flagship has a lighter design and hinge mechanism than the Fold 3, and a less visible middle crease.
The device has 12GB of RAM, 256/512GB, and 1TB of storage. The phone has 6.2-inch 23.1:9 Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz cover and 7.6-inch 21.6:18 inner displays. It’s shorter, wider, and features a more user-friendly cover display than the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It’s still there, but less noticeable.
The camera’s configuration is comparable to the Galaxy S22 Plus. 50MP primary, 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP telephoto sensors, 3x optical zoom. The cover display’s selfie camera is 10MP, while the inside display’s is 4MP.
The updated SoC adds Bluetooth 5.2, 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and more to the Fold 3. Samsung claims the phone can go from 0-50% in 30 minutes with its 4,400 mAh battery and 25W quick cable charging.
Runner-up: Galaxy Z Fold 3
2022 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is a great foldable phone. It has Snapdragon 888 and 12GB of RAM. Samsung hasn’t disclosed the upgrade schedule for Android 12L or Android 13 at the time of writing.
The Fold 3 has a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 120Hz display for web browsing, texting, and more. To multitask, you’ll need to unfold the 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz display.
The Fold 3 has a 12MP main, ultrawide, and telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom. It can capture decent photographs day and night, but if you want better, more spectacular images, get the Z Fold 4.
The Fold 3’s battery performance may be better, but it may be a decent deal as Samsung clears out leftover stock. It supports 25W fast wired charging, although a full charge takes a while. The phone can last a day on a single charge, but gaming will drain it.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 2
Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is also great. It was announced after the Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Samsung rectified most of our complaints. The new foldable has a 6.56-inch AMOLED cover display and 8.02-inch LTPO 2.0 OLED with 1-120Hz. The cover display’s 21:9 aspect ratio makes it feel more like a typical smartphone than the Fold 4.
When folded, the device is 11.2mm and unfolded it is 5.4mm. It’s powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 CPU with MIUI Fold 13, based on Android 12. There’s 12GB RAM, 256/512GB, and 1TB storage.
The Mix Fold 2 has a 50MP primary, 13MP ultrawide, and 8MP telephoto with 2x optical zoom. The cover camera is 20MP. The 4,500 mAh battery enables 67W fast-wired charging. It lacks wireless charging and isn’t dust- or water-resistant. Most foldables feature the fingerprint sensor incorporated in the power button on the side.
We don’t know when Xiaomi will release the Mix Fold 2 in other markets.
OPPO Find N
OPPO Find N debuted on December 15, 2021. It has a 5.5-inch AMOLED cover and 7.1-inch LTPO AMOLED, 120Hz inner screen. The wrinkle on the OPPO Find N is hardly apparent and impossible to feel when using the device.
The Find N has 256/512GB of storage and 8/12GB of RAM. Despite the SoC, it’s a competent device that can multitask and run graphics-intensive games.
50MP primary, 16MP ultrawide, and 13MP telephoto with 2x optical zoom. The cover display selfie camera is 32MP. On the inside side is a 32MP f/2.4 selfie camera.
It has a 4,500 mAh battery like the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2, but only 33W fast wired charging. OPPO says it can charge from 0-55% in 30 minutes and fully in 70. It’s slow, but it enables 15W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.
Only a few places outside China sell the OPPO Find N. We don’t know if another foldable will be released soon. The business may be working on two Foldable smartphones.
HONOR Magic V
HONOR released a foldable smartphone this year. The HONOR Magic V has a 6.45-inch OLED cover display and a 7.9-inch OLED inner display. It has the same design as the Galaxy Z Fold series and runs Android 12 with Magic UI 6. The foldable sports 12GB of RAM and 256/512GB of storage.
The HONOR Magic V has two 50MP sensors. The cover screen has a 42MP selfie camera cutout. It has NFC, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and Bluetooth 5.2. The Magic V’s 4,750 mAh battery with 66W fast-wired charging let you go from 0-50% in 15 minutes. This smartphone lacks wireless charging and is only available in China.
HUAWEI Mate Xs 2
In April, HUAWEI introduced the Mate Xs 2. The company is a pioneer in folding cellphones and one of the few to develop wraparound displays. It has a 6.5-inch OLED display that folds out to 7.8 inches. It boasts a 120Hz panel and 2,200 x 2,480 resolution.
The phone offers 8/12GB of RAM, 256/512GB storage, and an expandable Nano Memory slot. Harmony OS 2.0 powers the gadget, which lacks Google Play Services.
50MP primary sensor, 13MP ultrawide, and 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. The Mate Xs 2 has HUAWEI’s greatest camera setup and optimization on the market. It takes great day and nighttime photos.
The battery is 4,600 mAh. It offers 66W fast wired charging. Pre-orders start on August 31 in the UK. Huawei Mate Xs 2 will cost £1,699.99 on September 12. Pre-order customers get a complimentary HUAWEI Watch GT 3 Pro.
