Amazon will buy consumer robot maker iRobot.
iRobot is known for its Roomba robot vacuums and Braava robot mops. Sells air purifiers; portable vacuums; and educational robots to teach students to code. Amazon is paying $1.7 billion ($61 per share) to acquire iRobot; but shareholders and authorities must approve the deal.

Amazon says iRobot “a history of making customers’ lives easier with innovative cleaning products for the home,”. Suggesting this will be the emphasis of future items. Amazon may keep using the Roomba name because it’s so well-known; but we’ll have to see if “Echo” is added.
Colin Angle will remain as CEO of iRobot when the deal is complete; signaling Amazon plans to keep the company independent.
Amazon Devices SVP Dave Limp: “The team has reinvented. How people clean with practical and imaginative devices. However, cleaning when and where consumers want while avoiding barriers and automatically emptying the waste. Furthermore, customers love iRobot products; and I’m happy to help them.
Moreover, Amazon bought Wi-Fi mesh firm Eero in 2019 and security camera maker Blink and video doorbell maker Ring in 2018.
